Style Guides

This is how your document your references, which is independent from the SDSU formatting guidelines. You very much need to know what style guide your department requires.

A style guide is the way your document your references. When you use other sources in your document, you MUST document them properly or you risk being accused of plagiarism.

How you document your sources is important not only to preserve your own academic integrity, but is also key to getting your document approved for publishing.

Each SDSU department has a specific style guide they use for documenting sources in the body (in-text citations) and in the reference page. THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL.

If you don't already know your style guide, refer to the chart below and discuss with your committee chair which style guide is best for your project. All in-text citations and references in your reference page MUST follow the guidelines of your departmental style guide.
